First encounters on combs

We consider two random walkers embedded in a finite, two-dimension comb and we study the mean first-encounter time (MFET) evidencing (mainly numerically) different scalings with the linear size of the underlying network according to the initial position of the walkers. If one of the two players is not allowed to move, then the first-encounter problem can be recast into a first-passage problem (MFPT) for which we also obtain exact results for different initial configurations.

Rumor spreading via coupling

We study the PUSH rumor spreading process in randomly evolving graphs. In par- ticular we focus on the so called edge-Markovian random graph model, where birth and death rates for the edges in the graph are investigated in various ranges of con- crete interest. We prove that the completion time of PUSH is O(log n) also for highly unbalanced rates that make the network disconnected at each time-step.

A flame propagation model on a network with application to a blocking problem

We consider the Cauchy problem (Equation Presented) where - is a network and H is a positive homogeneous Hamiltonian which may change from edge to edge. In the first part of the paper, we prove that the Hopf-Lax type formula gives the (unique) viscosity solution of the problem. In the latter part of the paper we study a ame propagation model in a network and an optimal strategy to block a fire breaking up in some part of a pipeline; some numerical simulations are provided.

Measure-valued solutions to nonlocal transport equations on networks

Aiming to describe traffic flow on road networks with long-range driver interactions, we study a nonlinear transport equation defined on an oriented network where the velocity field depends not only on the state variable but also on the distribution of the population. We prove existence, uniqueness and continuous dependence results of the solution intended in a suitable measure-theoretic sense.

Transport of measures on networks

In this paper we formulate a theory of measure-valued linear transport equations on networks. The building block of our approach is the initial/boundary-value problem for the measure-valued linear transport equation on a bounded interval, which is the prototype of an arc of the network. For this problem we give an explicit representation formula of the solution, which also considers the total mass flowing out of the interval.

Towards a unified approach for Distributed Measurement System technologies

Many applications Internet-of-things (loT) based exploit Distributed Measurement System (DMS) to acquire data from sensors equipping objects or measurement instruments constituting the DMS nodes. The heterogeneity of the smart objects used to develop IoT applications has become a challenge in the design of the DMS, and very strong is the need to move towards new paradigm for programming and managing such systems. In fact, a current major limitation in the DMS development is the requirement of a deep knowledge about the different programming language and communication protocols.

Optonongenetic enhancement of activity in primary cortical neurons

It has been recently demonstrated that the exposure of naive neuronal cells to light—at the basis of optogenetic techniques and calcium imaging measurements—may alter neuronal firing. Indeed, understanding the effect of light on nongenetically modified neurons is crucial for a correct interpretation of calcium imaging and optogenetic experiments. Here we investigated the effect of continuous visible LED light exposure (490 nm, 0.18−1.3 mW/mm2) on spontaneous activity of primary neuronal networks derived from the early postnatal mouse cortex.

Development perspectives of relational capital in women-led firms

The purpose of the paper is to analyze the strategic role of relational capital for the achievement of sustainable development in Italian micro and small tourist businesses run by women. The paper focuses on the tourism enterprises because that sector constitute 10 % of the Italian GDP. The qualitative research methodology that has been used is that of case study research (Yin, 2009).

Immigrant women’s entrepreneurship: is there a development model in Italy?

The aim of this paper is to verify if there is a typical enterprise model for the development of immigrant female entrepreneurship in Italy. Based on the literature on the subject, however, it is useful to ask the following research question: “can membership in a national and international network facilitate the development of immigrant female entrepreneurship operating in Italy”? The survey was carried out by submitting a questionnaire to a sample of immigrant women entrepreneurs in the textile and clothing sector based in Italy.
