Effect of Flexural Stress on Torsional Resistance of NiTi Instruments

Introduction: Previously published studies have deeply investigated the characteristics of flexural and torsional resistance of nickel-titanium rotary instruments, but none of them investigated the relationship between the 2 stresses. The objective of the present study was to evaluate the influence of flexural stresses over torsional resistance. Methods: Sixty S-One 20.04 files (Fanta Dental, Shanghai, China) were used in the present study (N = 60) and divided into 3 test groups of 20 files.

Closed-loop hydrometallurgical treatment of end-of-life lithium ion batteries: towards zero-waste process and metal recycling in advanced batteries

This work presents an enhanced hydrometallurgical process for recycling lithium ion batteries. First, end-of-life batteries were processed in a physical pre-treatment plant to obtain a representative electrode material. The resulting leachate was purified forth by iron-precipitation, liquid–liquid extractions, and an innovative Li–Na separation, in order to obtain valuable products. These products include high-grade graphite, cobalt oxide (Co3O4, purity 83%), cobalt oxalate (CoC2O4, purity 96%), nickel oxide (NiO, purity 89%), and lithium carbonate (Li2CO3, purity 99.8%).

Lightweight metallic matrix composites. Development of new composites material reinforced with carbon structures

Carbon nano/micro-structures used as fillers in metallic lightweight alloys matrix composites are receiving considerable attention in scientific research and industrial applications. Aluminum and magnesium are the most studied light metals used as matrices in metal composites materials principally for their low density (respectively 2.7 g/cm3 and 1.7 g/cm3) and low melting temperature (around 660 °C for both metals).

New synthetic route for the production of mayenite support to enhance Ni resistance to coke deposition in the reforming of tar model compounds

Four nickel/mayenite catalysts were synthesized. Mayenite was prepared from different precursors, namely boehmite (AlO(OH)) + Ca(NO3)2·4H2O and gibbsite + Ca(OH)2, for each couple a specific procedure was followed. The effect of the Ni addition method was also evaluated, comparing wet impregnation and direct inclusion of nickel precursor during mayenite preparation. The obtained catalysts were characterized by XRD, BET, SEM/EDS and TPR. The Ni/mayenite catalysts were tested in steam reforming of toluene and pyrocatechol, chosen as tar model compounds.

Overweight and obese patients with nickel allergy have a worse metabolic profile compared to weight matched non-allergic individuals

A lack of balance between energy intake and expenditure due to overeating or reduced physical activity does not seem to explain entirely the obesity epidemic we are facing, and further factors are therefore being evaluated. Nickel (Ni) is a ubiquitous heavy metal implied in several health conditions. Regarding this, the European Food Safety Authority has recently released an alert on the possible deleterious effects of dietary Ni on human health given the current levels of Ni dietary intake in some countries.
