The role of peer victimization, sexual identity, and gender on unhealthy weight control behaviors in a representative sample of Texas youth

The aim of the study is to examine the association between victimization and unhealthy weight control behaviors (UWCB), accounting for other key correlates of UWCB while considering the moderating role of sexual identity and gender.

High frequency Deep TMS over the bilateral insula is associated with increased degree centrality in the prefrontal cortex of obese subjects: preliminary evidence

Obese subjects can be considered “food addicted”. Since there is growing evidence for the role of deep Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (dTMS) in reducing craving for different addictions, we proposed high frequency (HF) dTMS as a mean to reduce food craving and body weight. To identify regional location of dTMS stimulation we presently measured the regional brain network centrality (degree centrality, DC), in resting-state fMRI brain patterns, to explore plastic changes associated with HF dTMS in obese patients.

Adipose tissue remodelling in obese subjects is a determinant of presence and severity of fatty liver disease

Aims: Experimental data suggest that visceral adipose tissue (VAT) dysfunction contributes to non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) development in obesity, however, data on humans are limited. Aims of this study were to investigate the relationship between NAFLD and VAT morphofunctional impairment and to determine whether the extent of VAT remodelling is associated with liver damage and metabolic alterations in obesity.

Case report: pituitary morphology and function are preserved in female patients with idiopathic intracranial hypertension under pharmacological treatment

Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension is a neurological disorder primarily affecting overweight women of childbearing age. It is often characterized by radiologic evidence of empty sella (ES), which is in turn frequently associated with pituitary dysfunction, with the somatotropic axis most commonly affected. No recent evidence is available relative to the presence of pituitary hormone deficiencies in adult patients with Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension (IIH) under pharmacological therapy.

Disability assessment in an Italian cohort of patients with obesity using an International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF)-derived questionnaire

Obesity is a clinical condition that contributes to the development of related disability in different areas (physical, psychological and social). Multidisciplinary treatment calls for specific instruments able to evaluate all related functional problems. We have developed a tool (an ICF-based assessment instrument, the ICF-OB schedule) to evaluate obesity-related disability, composed of an inventory of 71-items from the WHO International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF).

Another side of the association between body mass index (BMI) and clinical outcomes of cancer patients receiving programmed cell death protein-1 (PD-1)/ Programmed cell death-ligand 1 (PD-L1) checkpoint inhibitors: A multicentre analysis of immune-re

Background: Several studies have found an association between higher body mass index (BMI) and improved clinical outcomes in cancer patients receiving programmed cell death protein-1 (PD-1)/programmed cell death-ligand 1 (PD-L1) checkpoint inhibitors. In a previous study, we found that overweight/obese patients were significantly more likely to experience any grade immune-related adverse events (irAEs) compared to non-overweight patients.

Peak oxygen uptake in heart failure. Look behind the number!

An impaired peak oxygen uptake (V̇O2peak) during a maximal cardiopulmonary exercise test (CPET) has been shown extensively to correlate with a poor prognosis in heart failure (HF) patients. Even, the abovementioned relationship remains effective irrespective of the left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF), a most recent study by Sato showing an unaltered V̇O2peak prognostic power also in the early defined HF with mid-range ejection fraction class (HFmrEF).

Achievement of multiple therapeutic targets for cardiovascular disease prevention. Retrospective analysis of real practice in Italy

Background: Pharmacological therapy in patients at high cardiovascular (CV) risk should be tailored to achieve recommended therapeutic targets. Hypothesis: To evaluate individual global CV risk profile and to estimate the control rates of multiple therapeutic targets for in adult outpatients followed in real practice in Italy.

Obesity-induced activation of JunD promotes myocardial lipid accumulation and metabolic cardiomyopathy

Aims Metabolic cardiomyopathy (MC)-characterized by intra-myocardial triglyceride (TG) accumulation and lipotoxic damage-is an emerging cause of heart failure in obese patients. Yet, its mechanisms remain poorly understood. The Activator Protein 1 (AP-1) member JunD was recently identified as a key modulator of hepatic lipid metabolism in obese mice. The present study investigates the role of JunD in obesity-induced MC.

Minimally invasive approach to the adrenal gland in obese patients with Cushing’s syndrome

Introduction: The combination of Cushing’s syndrome and obesity, one of the most common manifestations of the syndrome itself, may be associated with the worsening of post-operative outcomes in case of laparoscopic adrenalectomy. This study focused on the laparoscopic treatment of Cushing’s syndrome with the purpose to identify any relevant difference between morbidly obese, mildly obese and non-obese patients. Material and methods: Patients were retrospectively divided into three groups according to their Body Mass Index (BMI).
