Rethinking Public Agenda in a Time of High-Choice Media Environment

Contemporary political communication is conditioned by an information environment characterised, on the one hand, by
increased choice, and on the other by the fragmentation and multiplication of the ways of consuming information. This article introduces the notion of the ‘interrelated public agenda’ as a frame to study this context, taking into account elements

Politics and gender issues: at the crossroads of sexism in language and attitudes. An overview of some Italian studies

We present the principal findings of a research program, developed across the previous eight years, focused on politics and gender issues in Italy. The theoretical perspective is that of social representations (SRs) that disputes the transparency of language, affirming its capacity to mask power and ideological relations. We assume that gender is not a stable and immutable construct within each individual, but rather a performative construct related to fluid and mutable aspects built in the interactions between social actors.

Political Languages Overseas. Textual Analysis of the Discourses of Donald J. Trump

With reference to the theory of speech acts, we propose a textual analysis of the political discourses of one of the most influential political figure in the world, the 45th President of the United States of America, Donald J. Trump. Specifically, our work proposes the analysis of both official speeches (90) and published posts on Facebook Official Page (670) during the first year of office (20 January 2017 - 20 January 2018).

Lessons from Trump’s political communication. How to dominate the media environment

This book explores Donald Trump’s political communication as a candidate and in the first two years in office. The 45th US President is dominating the media system and 'building the agenda' through the combined action of five strategies. He disintermediates his communication and manufactures a permanent campaign climate based on strong and inflammatory language to attract a constant and decisive media coverage. In disarticulating old-style political rhetoric, he privileges emotions over contents, slogans above thought.

Independent fact-checking platforms in Spain and Italy. Features, organisation and method

In recent years the verification of information has become a relevant activity within journalism as a result of the increased circulation of fake news and its ready dissemination via platforms such as social networks. This project seeks to analyse the structure, composition and operation of the independent information verification platforms in Spain and Italy. To this end, different qualitative techniques were used, such as the case study applied to each of the initiatives, in-depth semistructured interviews with its co-founders or managers and web content analysis.
