This paper analyses, with a “genealogical” perspective that from Pascal reaches up to Girard, the hidden bond that links violence and law. Behind the law lies the “usurpation” as well as behind the social institutions lies the “sacrificial violence”. It is the task of this work to reconstruct this ambivalent connection that always structures, in its paradoxical removal, the ground of the social ties.
Il libro si apre con lo studio di un'epigrafe attualmente al Monastero di San Giovanni a Patmos, in cui è menzione di un culto peculiare offerto alla Artemis locale. L'epigrafe è studiata in tutte le sue componenti, linguistiche e testuali; contemporaneamente è studiato anche il supporto (una stele) e viene proposta una lettura per occasione della dedica e contestualizzazione della stessa. Nella Artemis locale si deve riconoscere l'Artemis taurica, giunta nell'isola tra le braccia di Oreste.
