Impact of Different Doses of Omega-3 Fatty Acids on Cardiovascular Outcomes: a Pairwise and Network Meta-analysis

Purpose of Review: Omega-3 fatty acid (O3FA) supplementation has shown conflicting evidence regarding its benefit in cardiovascular events. We performed a pairwise and network meta-analysis to elucidate the benefit of different doses of O3FA supplementation in cardiovascular prevention. Recent Findings: Fourteen studies were identified providing data on 125,763 patients. A prespecified cut-off value of < 1 g per day was set for low-dose (LD) O3FA and > 1 g per day for high-dose (HD) O3FA.

Anastomotic leakage in rectal surgery. Role of the ghost ileostomy

Background/Aim: A protective ileostomy performed during anterior resection in rectal surgery is considered a good practice to prevent anastomotic leakage. A derivative ostomy seems to be able to minimize the clinical consequences of an anastomotic leakage, but not to prevent it. The present study examined the role of the ghost ileostomy in anastomotic leakage following rectal surgery. Patients and Methods: This study included 82 patients that had undergone anterior rectal resection. A total of 32 patients underwent ghost ileostomy (GH) and 50 patients underwent ileostomy (IL).

Basal cell cancer is a malignant tumor of the skin most common in Caucasians and more common in the areas of the head and neck. At the moment there are many suggested treatment methods, however the surgical approach remains the technique most often applied. It includes excision of the oncological safety margins and the subsequent reconstructive phase can utilize local flaps or cutaneous grafts.

Long-term safety and efficacy of eculizumab in generalized myasthenia gravis

Introduction: Eculizumab is effective and well tolerated in patients with antiacetylcholine receptor antibody-positive refractory generalized myasthenia gravis (gMG; REGAIN; NCT01997229). We report an interim analysis of an open-label extension of REGAIN, evaluating eculizumab's long-term safety and efficacy. Methods: Eculizumab (1,200 mg every 2 weeks for 22.7 months [median]) was administered to 117 patients. Results: The safety profile of eculizumab was consistent with REGAIN; no cases of meningococcal infection were reported during the interim analysis period.

Systemic chemotherapy for advanced rare pancreatic histotype tumors: A retrospective multicenter analysis

Objectives Two issues were put forth by clinicians in the management of the advanced stages of rare variants of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma and other exocrine histotypes with peculiar clinical and pathological features: Do chemotherapy regimens recommended in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma patients have a clinical activity in rare pancreatic tumors? Or should other chemotherapy combinations be considered in this subset of patients?

Osimertinib beyond disease progression in T790M EGFR-positive NSCLC patients: a multicenter study of clinicians’ attitudes

Assessing Atrial Fibrillation Substrates by P Wave Analysis: A Comprehensive Review

Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common cardiac arrhythmia. Pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic rhythm control strategies impact on AF-related symptoms, while leaving largely unaffected the risk of stroke. Moreover, up to 20% of AF patients are asymptomatic during paroxysmal relapses of arrhythmia, thus underlying the need for early markers to identify at-risk patients and prevent cerebrovascular accidents. Indeed, non-invasive assessment of pre-clinical substrate changes that predispose to AF could provide early identification of at-risk patients and allow for tailored care paths.

We prove an Lp estimate (Equation Presented) for the Schrödinger group generated by a semibounded, self-adjoint operator L on a metric measure space X of homogeneous type (where n is the doubling dimension of X). The assumptions on L are a mild Lp0 → Lp' 0 smoothing estimate and a mild L2 → L2 off-diagonal estimate for the corresponding heat kernel e -tL. The estimate is uniform for φ varying in bounded sets of S(R), or more generally of a suitable weighted Sobolev space.
