Ferritin nanocages for protein delivery to tumor cells

The delivery of therapeutic proteins is one of the greatest challenges in the treatment of human diseases. In this frame, ferritins occupy a very special place. Thanks to their hollow spherical structure, they are used as modular nanocages for the delivery of anticancer drugs. More recently, the possibility of encapsulating even small proteins with enzymatic or cytotoxic activity is emerging. Among all ferritins, particular interest is paid to the Archaeoglobus fulgidus one, due to its peculiar ability to associate/dissociate in physiological conditions.

Efficient synthesis and first regioselective C-6 direct arylation of imidazo[2,1-c][1,2,4]triazine scaffold and their evaluation in H2O2-induced oxidative stress

Oxidative stress and apoptosis are both associated with various acute and chronic disorders. Thus, the aim of the present study is to synthesize imidazo[2,1-c][1,2,4]triazines derivatives and to evaluate their effects in H2O2-induced oxidative stress in human neuroblastoma cell line (SH-SY5Y cells). The effects of the compounds on cell viability were measured by MTT assay and the changes in stress and apoptosis-related proteins were investigated by PathScan® Stress and Apoptosis Signaling Antibody Array kit and Western Blot technique.

Blockade of Stearoyl-CoA-desaturase 1 activity reverts resistance to cisplatin in lung cancer stem cells

Background. Lung cancer is the leading cause of death worldwide. The treatment choice for advanced stage of lung cancer may depend on histotype, performance status (PS), age, and comorbidities. In the present study, we focused on the effect of metronomic vinorelbine treatment in elderly patients with advanced unresectable non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Methods. From January 2016 to December 2016, 44 patients affected by non- small cell lung cancer referred to our oncology day hospital were progressively analyzed.

Volatile components, polar constituents and biological activity of tansy daisy (Tanacetum macrophyllum (Waldst. et Kit.) Schultz Bip.)

Tansy daisy (Tanacetum macrophyllum (Waldst. et Kit.) Schultz Bip., Asteraceae) is a perennial herb worldwide cultivated for ornamental and industrial purposes. Sometimes, this species is misidentified by herb collectors and botanists with its family mate Achillea grandifolia (white yarrow). In the present work, we have analysed the essential oil and ethanolic extract obtained from the aerial parts of tansy daisy cultivated in Italy and evaluated the biological activity in terms of cytotoxic, antioxidant and anticholinesterase activities.
