A new dress for the Maliktum. Attires and functions of court-ladies at Ebla in the Early and Old Syrian periods

In ancient Ebla – and most probably in ancient pre-classical Syria – women had an important role in society. The systematic excavation of Ebla and the study of its epigraphic and archaeological evidence offered impressive data concerning this specific aspect for the Early and Old Syrian periods.

A New Silent Spring. The creation of an Autonomy of women's thinking in the project of open space and urban landscape

The reflection proposes a survey on women's ability to operate in partial indipendence and free thought through the design space, especially the open space. The works publish in the essay, belonging to different individuals and even far apart, are all linked by the metaphor of open space: gardens, parks, urban squares. The list of scholars is very long, among them: E. Bishop, R. Carson, S. Sassen, R. Solnit, D. Scott Brown, T. Way and for the UE, Muf Architect, Pia Pera, Caterina Resta, Luisa Bonesio, E. Simkunaite ed Emanuela Morelli.

Combined Oral Contraception and Bicalutamide in Polycystic Ovary Syndrome and Severe Hirsutism - a Double-blind RTC

Context: Hirsutism often occurs in women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). The efficacy of oral contraceptive pill (OCP) plus antiandrogens in the treatment of its severe expression is controversial due to the lack of randomized, double-blind, long-term studies. Objective: The primary outcome was the reduction of hirsutism in PCOS women objectively measured by videodermoscopy on the androgen-sensitive skin areas assessed by the modified Ferriman and Gallwey (mF&G) total score, after 12 months of therapy with OCP + bicalutamide (BC) vs OCP plus placebo (P).

Claiming half the sky. Aspects of women's movements in India after independence

This brief discussion of the grass-root movements draw attention to how the leadership in women’s movements has spread among different social classes and categories and is no longer confined within the urban middle class. Women today are participating in the political life of the country in increasing numbers in order to reclaim their space in ‘half the sky’ as citizens of India. Grass-root women’s activism no longer merely looks for largesse from the government; nor are the subaltern women the objects of reforms for well-intentioned upper-classes.
