Description of research activity:
The BioCAM Duplex is primarily utilized in research focused on studying the neurophysiological mechanisms underlying neurological diseases. Specifically, it aids in investigating two-dimensional models of Fragile X Syndrome and three-dimensional spinal and cortical organoids. These models help in examining significant alterations in gene expression and neural differentiation compared to healthy controls. High-density MEA recordings allow detailed characterization of electrical activity, contributing to a deeper understanding of network activity and its changes in pathological conditions.
Description of Third Mission activity:
The Third Mission activities involve the dissemination and application of research findings to enhance scientific knowledge and clinical practices. Through MEA technology, insights gained from the study of these models can be shared with the wider scientific community, ultimately contributing to the development of therapeutic approaches and public health policies focused on neurodegenerative diseases.
Description of educational/training activity:
The BioCAM Duplex is integrated into academic settings for training purposes. This includes teaching methodologies in neurophysiology and the utilization of MEA systems to analyze network activity. It offers practical, hands-on experiences for students and researchers in recording and interpreting complex neural data, enhancing their technical and analytical capabilities in neuroscientific research.
Description of other activities:
Beyond its core research applications, the BioCAM Duplex can be employed in drug screening initiatives and studies of the impact of various chemical and electrical stimulations on cellular models. This versatility allows it to be a tool not only for understanding diseases but also for exploring new treatment modalities and neuroengineering applications. These descriptions align with the stated goals and activities associated with the BioCAM Duplex MEA system and its application in academic and research contexts.
