This paper aims at a new approach to the study of the Roman province of Cilicia, whose formation progress was quite long (from the 1st century B.C. to 72 A.D.) and complicated by various events. It will be focused firstly to the better definition of the geographic limits of the region, which are not clear and quite ambiguous in the ancient sources. The second point will be the thorough analysis of the formation process of the province itself and of its progressive romanization. Finally the political organization of Cilicia within the Roman empire in its different forms throughout time will be taken into account.
