With the growing urbanization and development of the society, digital technologies are becoming a basis and an inherent part of the everyday urban life and of the smart cities development. The chapter examines the main definitions and dimensions of the smart city concept in the context of sustainable development. The chapter also discusses some spheres of urban life where digital technology is seen as a leverage for the successful functioning of the smart city and developing of its capacities: smart telecommunication networks, intelligent transportation systems and smart energy solutions for the smart cities.
