In light of some international research, we will try to show that the
persistent inequality that muddies statistics is the result of processes that
concern women social experience in academia. Starting from some quantitative
evidence, we will try to go beyond the data to understand how media forms
assumed by visualization requirements in research, teaching and practice
related to institutional work influence the representation of women professional
experience. In particular, analysing the ASN evaluation artefact, we focus on how
this performative level interacts with the dimension of gender. More analytically,
the question we ask is whether the interfaces constituting the new academic
spatiality “hold” a phantasmal media (Harrell, 2013) requiring conformity, and
how this phantasm removes or accentuates gender performativity.
