Interessi di ricerca

Il prof. Alessio Valletta svolge la sua attività di ricerca presso il Dipartimento di Biologia Ambientale dell'Università Sapienza di Roma. Le sue ricerche sono inerenti alla biologia dello sviluppo delle piante, mediante tecniche di microscopia ottica ed elettronica e metodologie di coltura in vitro, alternative o complementari agli studi in vivo. Si è interessato all’isolamento e caratterizzazione di molecole bioattive, in piante di interesse alimentare e medicinale. Numerosi anche gli studi volti al miglioramento della produzione di composti naturali antiossidanti, antifungini e antitumorali, utilizzando sistemi cellulari in vitro. Le sue ricerche sono anche volte allo studio delle vie biosintetiche dei metaboliti secondari e dei relativi meccanismi di regolazione mediante approcci biochimico e biomolecolare e allo studio delle interazioni tra vie metaboliche primarie e secondarie attraverso approccio metabolomico. Recenti studi riguardano l'applicazione delle nanobiotecnonologie come strategia innovativa per la gestione integrata delle colture in campo e per l’ottenimento di prodotti agroalimentari privi di residui di pesticidi e/o contaminanti.
