Interessi di ricerca

Prof. Nunziata is a leading expert on microwave remote sensing (SAR and radiometer) for coastal areas.
He developed new models and methods to process multi-polarization SAR and multi-channel microwave radiometer measurements. He promoted innovative physical-based approaches. His professional expertise covers electromagnetics, signal processing, inverse problems and information retrieval for coastal areas applications including water pollution, marine traffic monitoring, coastline extraction, enhancement of the spatial resolution.
Prof. Nunziata’s career commenced with works on SAR polarimetry for marine and maritime applications. Then he specialised on coastal areas applications involving polarimetric SAR measurements and the inversion of microwave remotely sensed measurements.
He is the author/coauthor of more than 120 peer-reviewed journal papers (> 60 published by IEEE) and > 150 refereed conference papers. His research activity mainly focuses on microwave remote sensing, covering both theoretical aspects (e.g.; multi-polarization scattering from rough surfaces, radar polarimetry, bistatic scattering, inverse problems) and applications (e.g.; marine and maritime applications including oil spills/ship detection, sea surface wind estimation and typhoon observation, and coastline extraction, land classification, crop phenology estimation, detection of damages due to earthquakes, spatial resolution enhancement of radiometer products, generation of radar image from Global Navigation Satellite System Reflectometry (GNSS-R) measurements. His expertise includes both active (Synthetic Aperture Radar) and passive (radiometer) microwave instruments and the exploitation of signals of opportunity for microwave remote sensing purposes (GNSS-R).
