My research focuses on the neurophysiological mechanisms underlying oscillatory synchronization within subcortical and cortical circuits, with a focus on the cortical excitatory–inhibitory balance and its crucial role in regulating vigilance, consciousness, sensorimotor integration, and cognitive processes. I have explored how they are differentially disrupted in various degenerative and systemic diseases, including Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, Lewy body dementia, chronic renal disorders, and HIV-related neurocognitive impairment. These conditions offer distinct pathophysiological windows into the breakdown of neurophysiological homeostasis.
