Interessi di ricerca

Caratterizzazione molecolare ed epidemiologica dei virus respiratori; il contributo della risposta immune dell’ospite alla patogenesi e alle sequele respiratorie. Di particolare rilevanza: caratterizzazione clinica e virologica di virus respiratori emergenti (Metapneumovirus, Bocavirus), del virus influenza A (H1N1) responsabile della pandemia del 2009 in malati di età  pediatrica e adulta e del Virus Respiratorio Sinciziale (RSV), con la prima rilevazione in Europa del nuovo ceppo ON1 sottotipo A, e degli altri genotipi di RSV-A e -B circolanti in Italia, in collaborazione con altri gruppi di ricerca a livello nazionale. Studio della risposta immunitaria innata e acquisita in pazienti COVID-19 e in bambini positivi a SARS-CoV-2.

Diagnosi molecolare di Papillomavirus (HPV) DNA in collaborazione coi clinici (ginecologi, dermatologi, proctologi, otorinolaringoiatri, infettivologi), rafforzamento della consapevolezza del poteziale oncogenico di HPV; epidemiologia, caratterizzazione molecolare e analisi della carica virale in infezioni da HPV con localizzazione genitale, anale, orofaringea e cutanea; attivazione di geni interferon-indotti in pazienti infetti; ruolo del microbiota nella storia naturale di HPV
