Interessi di ricerca

Focus principale della ricerca scientifica è stato sin dall'inizio l'influenza della struttura della cromatina sulla regolazione trascrizionale. Questo ha portato le ricerche a orientarsi sui meccanismi di posizionamento dei nucleosomi e sull'impatto delle modificazioni istoniche (in particolare della metilazione delle lisine) sulla trascrizione. Recentemente si è avviato lo studio del ruolo di una demetilasi degli istoni (KDM5B) in una serie di linee tumorali in cui risulta sovraespressa. I risultati preliminari hanno evidenziato un ruolo della demetilasi oltre che nella regolazione trascrizionale anche nel riparo dei danni genotossici. Una linea secondaria ma sempre viva negli ultimi vent'anni è stata quella di indagare i meccanismi della risposta trascrizionale delle cellule di mammifero ai danni causati dalle radiazioni ionizzanti. Questa linea è stta sostenuta da studi trascrittomici e bioinformatici.
