Satire, Farce and Empowerment in Performative Practices from North-Indian regions

The project aims to produce a mapping of the aesthetics and socio-cultural trajectories of farce in North India. The two main areas of investigation regard the Uttarakhand, with a focus on the oral narratives associated with the Mahila holi in Kumaon, and Uttar Pradesh, where the aesthetics of farce may be found in the context of the Svang/Nautanki/Bhagat performative tradition. The project intends to investigate main oral narratives associated with these performances. Also, it traces the communicative functions incorporated by them in the current Indian social context.
