At META-IR, we investigate the infrared spectral and spatial properties of newly emerging materials as well as metamaterials, for taming and tuning of the infrared emitted radiation. The goal of the laboratory's research lies in the synergistic overlap of engineering, photonics, and materials science.
The Molecular Photonics Laboratory (MPL) was established in 1997 and gathers equipment, expertise and experiments used for the study of the linear, nonlinear, photoluminescence and electroluminescence properties of molecular and polymeric organic materials. Such materials are used for the fabrication of integrated optical devices, organic light emitting diodes (OLED) and dye-sensitized organic solar cells (DSSC). Since 2007 the laboratory started migrating towards the field of Biophotonics, in which the materials are still organic but of biological origin.
The Laboratory of Radiation Protection is mainly devoted to experimental applications related to environmental radioactivity (radon in air/water, radioactivity of building materials), and to nuclear measurements (alpha/beta/gamma spectrometry and neutron techniques).
Il laboratorio ha un’esperienza ventennale nel campo dello studio archeometrico di Beni Culturali. Tale studio, finalizzato sia ad aspetti conoscitivi che al restauro e alla conservazione, consiste nell’analisi mediante metodologie fisiche dei materiali che costituiscono le opere. Le analisi effettuate dal laboratorio sono totalmente non distruttive e possono essere eseguite in situ. Il laboratorio ha ampia esperienza su materiali ceramici, pitture murali o su tela/tavola, manoscritti, materiali metallici e lapidei.
The group has more than twentyfive years of experience in the field of organic electrochemistry, particularly for the synthesis of materials for organic electronics, small molecules of industrial and pharmaceutical interest, incorporation of carbon dioxide in organic compounds. The research group has specific skills in organic synthesis, electrochemical characterization of organic molecules and salts, also in view of their application in organic electronics.
Misure di spettri di trasmissione in luce polarizzata circolarmente di molecole in soluzione e su substrati nanostrutturati. Misure di spettri di luminescenza di molecole in soluzione e su substrati nanostrutturati sotto eccitazione di luce a polarizzazione circolare. Misure di assorbimento fotoacustico in luce a polarizzazione circolare. Presso il laboratorio è allocata l'infrastruttura Sapienza LASAFEM.
Nel laboratorio di Fisica Acustica presso il Dipartimento SBAI vengono condotte ricerche avanzate — teoriche e sperimentali — sulla propagazione delle onde elastiche nella materia e sull’interazione tra onde elastiche di alta frequenza e materia. In particolare, viene studiata la propagazione di onde elastiche in mezzi complessi e strutturati sia per la determinazione
delle proprietà elastiche (microscopiche e macroscopiche) della materia, sia per l’analisi di effetti di non linearità.
The laboratory is equipped with
a state of the art Quantum Cascade Laser (QCL) THz sources with emission powers in the mW range and between (1.9-5) THz;
a state of the art 2D sensor composed of microbolometers at room temperature (and other pyroelectric sensors).
a high resolution (down to 10 MHz) coherent spectroscopy system at THz frequencies composed by a combination of photoantennas and IR lasers in optical fiber.
