METABOLOMICS: development and validation of chromatographic and mass spectrometric methods for the study of metabolic profiles associated with specific cellular processes, under physiological and pathological conditions in different biological systems. Much of the research activity is focused on targeted and untargeted metabolomics applied to cancer (neuroblastoma, prostate adenocarcinoma, non-small-cell lung carcinoma, melanoma), inflammatory diseases (Chron's disease), and neutral lipid storage diseases (Niemann–Pick disease). Part of the research is spent on the application of metabolomics to plant/host interaction and food quality and safety.
DRUG DELIVERY SYSTEMS: development of ferritin-based nanocarriers for the encapsulation of therapeutic proteins (cytochrome C, ribonuclease, saporin, etc ...), dendrimers and nucleic acids and their targeted delivery to tumor cells overexpressing the CD71 receptor.
BIOCATALYSIS: eco-sustainable production of pharmaceutical intermediates and biologically active substances using recombinant enzymes (allyl alcohol dehydrogenase, pictetspenglerase, prenyltransferase, cytochromes P450) or purified enzymes from plant tissues (amino oxidases).
