Bianca Terracciano, PhD in Semiotics, is a research fellow at the Department of Communication and Social Research of the Sapienza University of Roma where she is Assistant Professor of “Semiotic sciences of the texts and languages” and “Semiotics of fashion”.
In her research, Terracciano tries to develop the analysis of Social Media and Web analysis, related to various fields such as fashion, music, gastronomy, television series, sports, and urban practices. Her methodological framework of reference is semiotic ‒ Greimasian approach, Lotman’s semiotics of culture and sociosemiotics ‒ especially regarding the forms of enunciation, passions, textual genres, plastic language, and the figurative nature of the discourses.
She holds a Master’s degree in Business Communication (cum laude, under the supervision of Isabella Pezzini) from the Sapienza University of Rome and a PhD in Semiotics (under Maria Pia Pozzato and Patrizia Violi) from the University of Bologna and the SUM. She is a member of the Italian Association of Semiotic Studies (AISS), of the Federation of Romance Semiotics (FEDROS), of the Roman Laboratory of Semiotics (LARS) and of the Italian Society of philosophy of Language (SFL). Terracciano organized and co-organized five international congresses and conferences (2010: Conference Come lo Sport spiega il mondo, Coris, Sapienza University of Rome and XXXVIII Congress of semiotics. Bianca Terracciano has single-authored three books (like Social Moda. Nel segno di influenze, pratiche, discorsi, Milano, FrancoAngeli, 2017); edited five collective volumes, published twenty chapters in books (2018, “One More Light: immagini del lutto sui social media”, in G. Fiorentino, C.
