The Biodiversity & Global Change (BGC) research lab

The Biodiversity & Global Change Lab (BGC), led by Moreno Di Marco at the Department of Biology and Biotechnology “Charles Darwin” of Sapienza University of Rome, focuses on understanding how global environmental changes affect biodiversity and human well-being. The lab’s research explores the impacts of global drivers such as climate change, land-use alteration, and human pressure on ecosystems, aiming to develop effective strategies to mitigate biodiversity loss and promote sustainability. Its work combines biodiversity conservation, ecology, macroecology and global change science, with a strong emphasis on translating research findings into actionable tools for conservation planning and policy.

The BGC Lab brings together around 15 researchers, including PhD students, postdoctoral fellows and thesis students. The team is involved in national and international research projects (Horizon, Biodiversa+, MUR etc.).
