Looking if any correlation exists between the total antioxidant capacity and polyphenol concentration (measured using two different enzyme sensors) in several food or feed based vegetables and pharmaceutical integrators

he principal aim of the present research has been to check if any correlation exists between the total antioxidant capacity (TAOC) value and the total polyphenols content (TPC) of several food, or beverages and feed samples based vegetables. The research was also extended to several food supplements currently sold as pharmaceutical integrators. © Springer International Publishing AG 2018.

Composite Indicators for Smart Campus: Data Analysis Method

Dual Six-Phase Multilevel AC Drive with Single Carrier Optimized Five-Level PWM for Star-Winding Configuration

This article presents new multilevel modulation strategy based on single carrier-based pulse-width modulation for dual six-phase (twelve-phase) symmetrical/asymmetrical star-end winding converter. The four standard voltage source inverters with one bidirectional switch (MOSFET/IGBT) per phase constitute the power circuit. Further, through the two capacitor bi-directional switch link the neutral link. An algorithm-based single carrier zero-shifted five-level modulation (SCZSFM) modulates each two-level VSI as a five-level output multilevel inverter.

Intrinsically Safe Grounding Systems and Global Grounding Systems

This paper introduces a characterization of grounding systems (GSs) and defines their condition of “conventionally safe” and “intrinsically safe.” A single GS and a set of GSs are intrinsically safe if they guarantee touch/step voltages permanently permissible for an assigned ground fault value. A new definition of global grounding systems (GGSs) is proposed, revising that offered by the Standards IEC 61936-1/EN 50522.

Arc flash in large energy storage systems. Hazard calculation and mitigation

This paper deals with the arc flash hazard calculation in large energy storage systems (ESSs), with specific reference to battery energy storage systems (BESSs) and supercapacitor energy storage systems (SESSs). Due to the lack of international harmonized standards and the growing use of large ESSs, the evaluation of arc flash hazard associated with BESS maintenance operation is an interesting subject.

Replacing Diesel Generators with Hybrid Renewable Power Plants: Giglio Smart Island Project

The use of diesel generators to supply electricity to small remote islands is both costly and environmentally troublesome. On the other hand, small island networks pose peculiar stability and reliability problems when renewable energy sources are added. This paper regards the installation of a hybrid power plant (photovoltaic, plus lithium battery and synchronous condenser) in Giglio island, to replace existing diesel units. This paper discusses the general overview of the project and presents steady-state and dynamic simulations of the proposed energy system.

Modelling 2×25 kV–50 Hz traction systems for power frequency studies

The paper shows the typical architecture of a 2×25 kV-50 Hz traction system, and the details that need to be considered and approximations that can safely be done, for power frequency studies. Power frequency models are important to allow simulations of long timespans, such as those needed when evaluation of trains acceleration/braking, for instance to analyse active and reactive power flows, voltages and currents. The proposed models are implemented in two ways: as data to be inputted to the well-known ATP Program, and as specific models written in the standard Modelica language.

Architectural criteria for a distributed energy monitoring system

The standards related to energy management emphasize the role of the measurement activity but no exhaustive guidelines have been published for outlining requirements and architecture of a comprehensive energy efficiency monitoring system that goes beyond a simple measuring system. A Monitoring System for Energy Efficiency should transform several kinds of energetic and context data into actionable pieces of information for controlling energy performance, improving operations and maintenance as well as verifying the effectiveness and the continuity of corrective actions.

Realization of 5-bus system using soft computing technique for flexible alternating current transmission system (FACTS) devices

Total transfer capability analysis of power system is currently a critical issue in both planning & operating of systems. These issues mainly occur due to increase in area and interchanges among utilities. To reduce the flows in heavily loaded lines, Flexible Alternating Current Transmission System (FACTS) devices is used, this results in increased transfer capability, improve stability of the network, low system losses, and fulfill contractual required by controlling the power flows in the network.
