Risk factors for chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyradiculoneuropathy (CIDP): antecedent events, lifestyle and dietary habits. Data from the Italian CIDP Database

Background and purpose: The role of lifestyle and dietary habits and antecedent events has not been clearly identified in chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyradiculoneuropathy (CIDP). Methods: Information was collected about modifiable environmental factors and antecedent infections and vaccinations in patients with CIDP included in an Italian CIDP Database. Only patients who reported not having changed their diet or the lifestyle habits investigated in the study after the appearance of CIDP were included. The partners of patients with CIDP were chosen as controls.

The era of the smart people. How techno capitalism is changing the lifestyles of the individuals of the smart society

Taxonomic variation in levels of endemism: a case study of Italian tenebrionid beetles

1. Levels of endemism are usually expressed as percentage of endemics among all species recorded in a given area. Endemism levels also vary among taxa, yet inter-taxon variation in endemism levels has received much less attention. 2. We used the Italian tenebrionids to investigate how endemism levels vary among different but related lineages.

For a livable city able tu educate and care for citizens

An appealing city, if we assume that the concept of beauty goes beyond purely aesthetic limits, it’s first and above all a city where people live well. It is an “adequate city”, capable of communicating adequacy (the concept of "adequacy" is used in the general-holistic sense that the philosopher Lucacks attributed to it in the treatise on Aesthetics). It’s a healthy city, that can promote virtuous lifestyles, allowing as many people as possible to spend their lives in fullness and satisfaction over time and in good health.

Nutrition and neuroendocrine tumors. An update of the literature

Neuroendocrine tumors (NETs) are a heterogeneous group of neoplasms with worldwide increasing incidence, high prevalence and survival. Both the tumor itself and the systemic therapy may have an impact on patients’ nutrition. Malnutrition negatively impacts on outcome in NETs patients. Moreover, it has been demonstrated that body mass index was a risk factor for NET development and that metabolic syndrome was associated with worse prognosis in these patients.

Diabetes and pancreatic neuroendocrine tumours: which interplays, if any?

Pancreatic neuroendocrine tumours (PanNETs) represent an uncommon type of pancreatic neoplasm, whose incidence is increasing worldwide. As per exocrine pancreatic cancer, a relationship seems to exist between PanNETs and glycaemic alterations. Diabetes mellitus (DM) or impaired glucose tolerance often occurs in PanNET patients as a consequence of hormonal hypersecretion by the tumour, specifically affecting glucose metabolism, or due to tumour mass effects.
