ovarian cancer (OC) deaths. In this setting, the role of cancer stem-like cells (CSCs) is still unclear.
In particular, the evolution of CSC biomarkers from primary (pOC) to recurrent (rOC)
HGSOCs is unknown. Aim of this study was to investigate changes in CD133 and aldehyde
dehydrogenase-1 (ALDH1) CSC biomarker expression in pOC and rOC HGSOCs.

Re-irradiation in lung disease by SBRT. A retrospective, single institutional study

Background: The loco regional relapse is frequent in the lung disease. The aim of this study was to evaluate the outcomes of re-irradiation by SBRT in terms of Local Control (LC) and toxicities. Methods: From April 2011 to December 2016, twenty-two patients received a re-irradiation by SBRT. Twenty- seven lesions were treated. The medium BED(10) of re-irradiation was 100.6 Gy (range: 48-151.2 Gy) and the medium EQD2(10) was 93.8 Gy (range: 40-126 Gy). In the previous treatment the medium BED(10) was 97.2 Gy (range: 40-120 Gy), the medium EQD2(10) was 81 Gy (range: 32.5-100 Gy).

Down-regulated miRs specifically correlate with non-cardial gastric cancers and Lauren's classification system

Background and Objectives: Gastric cancers are usually characterized using Lauren's classification into intestinal and diffuse types. We previously documented the down-modulation of miR31, miR148a, miR204, and miR375 in gastric cancers. We aimed this manuscript to investigate these miRs with the end-points of diagnosis, Lauren's classification and prognosis. Methods: A total of 117 resected non-cardial adenocarcinomas were evaluated for miRs' expressions. The performance of miRs’ expressions for cancer diagnosis was tested using ROC curves.

Early gastric cancer exfoliating into gastric lavage (GL1 EGC) shows a more aggressive behavior and poorer survival compared to the non-exfoliative counterpart (GL0 EGC)

BACKGROUND/AIM:
Early gastric cancer (EGC) is usually associated with excellent prognosis. Some cases, however, entail a poorer survival. Our aim was to assess if EGC exfoliating into gastric lavage (GL) has a more aggressive behavior than the non-exfoliative counterpart.
PATIENTS AND METHODS:
Between April 2012 and April 2017, 96 gastric cancer patients were prospectively submitted to preoperative GL to detect the presence (GL1) or absence (GL0) of exfoliated malignant cells.

Magnetic resonance tumor regression grade (MR-TRG) to assess pathological complete response following neoadjuvant radiochemotherapy in locally advanced rectal cancer

This study aims to evaluate the feasibility of a magnetic resonance (MR) automatic method for quantitative assessment of the percentage of fibrosis developed within locally advanced rectal cancers (LARC) after neoadjuvant radiochemotherapy (RCT). A total of 65 patients were enrolled in the study and MR studies were performed on 3.0 Tesla scanner; patients were followed-up for 30 months. The percentage of fibrosis was quantified on T2-weighted images, using automatic K-Means clustering algorithm.

Gamma Glutamyltransferase Reduction Is Associated With Favorable Outcomes in Pediatric Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis

Adverse clinical events in primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC) happen too slowly to capture during clinical trials. Surrogate endpoints are needed, but no such validated endpoints exist for children with PSC. We evaluated the association between gamma glutamyltransferase (GGT) reduction and long-term outcomes in pediatric PSC patients. We evaluated GGT normalization ( 75% versus 75% by 1 year after PSC diagnosis predicts favorable 5-year outcomes in children. GGT has promise as a potential surrogate endpoint in future clinical trials for pediatric PSC.

Sarcopenia predicts reduced survival in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma at first diagnosis

European Society of Cardiology - Acute Cardiovascular Care Association position paper on safe discharge of acute heart failure patients from the emergency department

Heart failure is a global public health challenge frequently presenting to the emergency department. After initial stabilization and management, one of the most important decisions is to determine which patients can be safely discharged and which require hospitalization. This is a complex decision that depends on numerous subjective factors, including both the severity of the patient's underlying condition and an estimate of the acuity of the presentation. An emergency department observation period may help select the correct option.
