Molecular Epidemiology of Cancer (MEC)

The mission of the research group is to improve cancer precision prevention and treatment by providing a comprehensive characterization of the genetic susceptibility and molecular pathology of solid tumors using “omics” data in the frame of national and international collaborations.

Main Research Interests

  • Genomic screening of cancer patients using next-generation sequencing (NGS) to identify cancer susceptibility genes.
  • Investigation of common genetic variants influencing tumor susceptibility through genome-wide association studies (GWAS).
  • Development of polygenic risk score (PRS) models to improve the accuracy of cancer risk prediction.
  • Characterization of the cancer spectrum and risk estimates associated with key susceptibility genes, including BRCA1, BRCA2, and PALB2.
  • Tumor profiling to define genetic and epigenetic signatures using genome, transcriptome, and miRNA analyses.
