Giorgio Calza Bini e la stazione di servizio dell’autocamionale Genova-Valle del Po.
The service station of the trunk-road Genova-Valle del Po is among the first Italian works fully inspired by European functionalism. It is also possible to consider it as the first service station of the motorway type, complete with refreshment and hotel, built in Italy. Among its main features we note first the first bridge-restaurant on road layout, which will have great success in the construction of motorway architectures since the fifties. The multifunctional building was designed by the architect Giorgio Calza Bini, in charge of the complementary architectural works to the construction of the trunk-road Genoa-Valle del Po: the entrance square in Genoa with the station and the terminal stele, the Serravalle stele and the portals of the October 28 and Littorio galleries.
The building has come down to us, but unfortunately it is very difficult to recognize it due to noticeable tampering. We hope for a real restoration that will make visible the great innovations of this historic work.
