China’s role during the First World War may seem at first glance marginal, despite the consequences of the war on the fate of this Asian country and the contrasting ambitions of the Great Powers represent a very important element for the subsequent history of the Far East. As far as Italy is concerned, the interest in China has remained, after all, limited in the years that preceded the outbreak of WW1. This fact, however, did not exclude concrete attention to China. This paper intends to briefly analyze the Italian perspective on China during the Great War, in order to clearly place China in the overall picture of Italian politics of those years.
