Interessi di ricerca

Anna Maria D’Achille graduated in History of Art in 1980, and attended the Postgraduate School in History of Medieval and Modern Art (1981-1984) at Sapienza University of Rome. In 1993 she became Researcher in History of Medieval Art at the University of Cagliari, and then at Sapienza University. From 1997 to 2005 she lectured History of Medieval Art at the Postgraduate School in History of Medieval and Modern Art, at the LUMSA (Palermo) and at the University Roma Tre. She taught History of Medieval Art at Palackého University, Olomouc. In 2001 she became Associate Professor in History of Medieval Art at Sapienza University, where she became Full Professor in 2019. She is member of the Scientific Board of the PhD programme in History of Art at Sapienza University.

Since 1992 she has contributed to several research projects funded by her Department and by the Ateneo Federato delle Scienze Umane, delle Arti e dell’Ambiente; furthermore, she took part to the National Coordination Board of PRIN 2009 (PI: A. Iacobini) and actually she is in the National Coordination Board of PRIN 2017 (PI: A. Iacobini).

From 1984 to 2002 she was editor in chief of the “Enciclopedia dell’Arte Medievale” (Treccani), directed by Angiola Maria Romanini; since 1995 she has been member of the Scientific Board, then Managing Board, of periodicals such as “RolSa” and “Arte Medievale”. Since 2019 she is Responsible Director of “Arte medievale”.

She is member of the Italian delegation in the CIHA, of the Scientific Board of the Associazione Italiana Storici dell‘Arte Medievale and correspondent member of the Società Romana di Storia Patria. On the behalf of the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities she became member of the National Board for the celebration of the seventh centenary of the death of Arnolfo di Cambio (2002-2008).

She has taken part to the planning boards of several congresses and exhibitions, such as: “Le isole Pontine attraverso i tempi” (exhibition: Roma, Palazzo Venezia, 1983); “Le virtù e i piaceri in Villa. Per il nuovo museo comunale della Villa Doria Pamphili” (exhibition: Roma, Villa Doria Pamphili, 1998); “Anno 1300, il primo Giubileo: Bonifacio VIII e il suo tempo” (exhibition: Roma, Museo Nazionale del Palazzo di Venezia, 2000); “Il monumento del cardinal De Braye di Arnolfo di Cambio dopo il restauro” (congress: Roma-Orvieto, Ministero per i Beni e le Attività Culturali, Università di Roma “La Sapienza”, 2004); “Arnolfo di Cambio e la sua epoca: costruire, scolpire, dipingere, decorare” (congress, Firenze-Colle di Val d’Elsa, 2006); “Voyages et conscience patrimoniale. Aubin-Louis Millin (1759-1818) entre France et Italie” (congress, Paris, Institut national du Patrimoine–Roma, Sapienza Università di Roma, 2008); “Medioevo tra Occidente e Mediterraneo” (congress, Università di Roma “La Sapienza”, 17-18 dicembre 2014); “Medioevo ritrovato. Il patrimonio artistico della Puglia e dell’Italia meridionale prima e dopo Aubin-Louis Millin (1759-1818)” (congress, Università di Roma “La Sapienza”, 25-26 maggio 2017); “Incontri mediterranei. Arte e artisti tra Bisanzio e l’Occidente dopo la Quarte Crociata (1204-1430)” (congress, Università di Roma “La Sapienza”, Real Academia de España en Roma, 26-27 settembre 2019).

She has focused especially on Romanesque and Gothic sculpture in central and southern Italy; on funeral monuments in Tuscany, Umbria, Latium; on Arnolfo di Cambio; on Roman painting in the 12th-13th centuries; on religious iconography. Moreover, she has studied in depth the earliest examples of history of historiography on Medieval art in France and in Italy between the 18th and the 19th centuries, particularly focusing on Aubin-Louis Millin.
