Object of its studies is alcohol dependence, with particular regard to the molecular aspect and its genetic basis, the risk and effect of fetal exposure to alcohol (fetal alcoholic syndrome). He searches for new markers of alcohol abuse and analyzes genes related to neurotransmission involved in the phenomenon of addiction, with particular attention to opioid receptors and the serotonin transporter (5-HTT). His research focuses on transcriptional regulation in relation to the presence of epigenetic modifications and single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs).
