Interessi di ricerca

Le principali linee di ricerca della prof.ssa Schippa riguardano lo studio di ecosistemi microbici umani, con particolare riguardo alla loro caratterizzazione e alle relazioni tra i microbi e tra i microbi e l'ospite. Nell'ambito di tali studi ha isolato e caratterizzato diversi ceppi batterici ed evidenziato particolari varianti genomiche associabili all’ambiente patologico da cui sono stati isolati. Inoltre, sempre nell’ambito delle relazioni tra microbi, ha condotto diversi studi sulle co-infezioni virus-batteri. Parallelamente conduce studi volti a strategie terapeutiche alternative agli antibiotici. In questo ambito ha condotto studi sul trapianto fecale; sull’utilizzo di predatori batterici sia come probiotici che come alternativa agli antibiotici; sull’utilizzo di sostanze naturali o prodotti batterici come antimicrobici e antitumorali.
