L'unità di ricerca 'Geometria descrittiva' è stata istituita nel 2011 con lo scopo di promuovere il rinnovamento degli studi, della ricerca e dell’insegnamento della geometria descrittiva e delle sue applicazioni. Questo rinnovamento nasce dallo sviluppo e dalla applicazione della tecnologia informatica ai classici temi della geometria descrittiva e proiettiva, come la prospettiva, la fotogrammetria, la descrizione delle superficie e delle loro proprietà. Esso riguarda altresì lo studio della Storia della Geometria descrittiva, che è qui intesa comprensiva delle sue remote origini, delle conquiste dal Rinascimento alla rivoluzione industriale, degli sviluppi nell'età contemporanea, e perciò non circoscritta a Gaspard Monge e alla sua scuola.
L'unità di ricerca fonda le sue attività sugli esiti di tre ricerche di interesse nazionale proposte e coordinate da Riccardo Migliari e precisamente:
2005 - VIA Virtual Interactive Architecture, con gli Atenei di Udine e Venezia;
2008 - Descriptive geometry and digital representation: memory and innovation, con gli Atenei di Genova, Milano, Udine e Venezia;
2010 2011 - Architectural Perspective: digital preservation, content access and analytics, con gli Atenei di Firenze, Genova,  Milano, Salerno, Torino, Udine, Venezia e con l'Università della Calabria.

The research unit 'Descriptive Geometry' was created in 2011 and set up with the aim of promoting the renewal of the studies, the research and the teaching of Descriptive Geometry  and its applications. This renewal arises from the development and application of the information technology to the classic themes of descriptive and projective geometry, as perspective, photogrammetry, the description of surfaces and their properties. It also concerns the study of the history of descriptive geometry, including its remote origins, the achievements from the Renaissance to the Industrial Revolution, the developments in the Contemporary Age, and therefore not limited to Gaspard Monge and his school.
The Research Unit bases its activities on the results of three researches of national interest, proposed and coordinated by Riccardo Migliari:

2005 - VIA Virtual Interactive Architecture, together with the Universities of Udine and Venice;
2008 - Descriptive geometry and digital representation: memory and innovation, together with the Universities of Genoa, Milan, Udine e Venice;
2010 2011 - Architectural Perspective: digital preservation, content access and analytics, together with the Universities of Florence, Genoa,  Milan, Salerno, Turin, Udine, Venice and the University of Calabria.
