Correlation between the antimicrobial activity and metabolic profiles of cell free supernatants and membrane vesicles produced by lactobacillus reuteri DSM 17938

The aim of the work is to assess the antimicrobial activities of Cell Free Supernatants (CFS) and Membrane Vesicles (MVs), produced by Lactobacillus reuteri DSM 17938, versus Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria and investigate their metabolic profiles. The Minimum Inhibitory Concentration was determined through the broth microdilution method and cell proliferation assay and the Minimum Bactericidal Concentration was determined by Colony Forming Units counts.

Composition of the essentialoOil of coristospermum cuneifolium and antimicrobial activity evaluation

For the first time, the chemical composition and antimicrobial evaluation of Coristospermum cuneifolium (previously named Ligusticum lucidum subsp. cuneifolium) essential oil obtained from the aerial parts are reported in this work. Approximately 85 % of the total constituents were identified by GC-MS analysis, evidencing the presence of 12 chemical components which belong to several classes of natural compounds. Most of them are reported for the first time in the Ligusticum genus (s.l.) and in the Apiaceae family.

Chemical and antimicrobial analyses of Sideritis romana L. subsp. purpurea (Tal. ex Benth.) Heywood, an endemic of the Western Balkan

A comprehensive study on essential oil and different solvent extracts of Sideritis romana L. subsp. purpurea (Tal. ex Benth.) Heywood (Lamiaceae) from Montenegro is reported. The gas chromatography-mass spectrometry analysis of the essential oil revealed a total of 43 components with bicyclogermacrene (23.8%), germacrene D (8%), (E)-caryophyllene (7.9%) and spathulenol (5.5%) as the major ones. Sesquiterpenoid group was found to be the most dominant one (64.8%), with 19.9% of the oxygenated forms.

Chromatographic analyses, in vitro biological activities, and cytotoxicity of Cannabis sativa L. essential oil: a multidisciplinary study

Due to renewed interest in the cultivation and production of Italian Cannabis sativa L., we
proposed a multi-methodological approach to explore chemically and biologically both the essential
oil and the aromatic water of this plant. We reported the chemical composition in terms of
cannabinoid content, volatile component, phenolic and flavonoid pattern, and color characteristics.
Then, we demonstrated the ethnopharmacological relevance of this plant cultivated in Italy as a

Chemical composition and antimicrobial activity of essential oil of Helichrysum italicum (Roth) G. Don fil. (Asteraceae) from Montenegro

An experimental investigation on essential oil of a Montenegrin Helichrysum italicum (Roth) G. Don fil. (Asteraceae) is reported. The essential oil was analysed in both liquid and vapour phases. Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry analysis of the liquid oil showed the predominance of sesquiterpenes with β-eudesmene (21.65%) and β-bisabolene (19.90%) as the major ones. Monoterpene fraction was mainly represented by α-pinene (16.90%) and neryl acetate (10.66%). Head-space technique revealed the vapour phase enriched of monoterpenes with α-pinene (78.76%) predominance.

Structural elucidation and antimicrobial characterization of novel diterpenoids from fabiana densa var. ramulosa

Novel diterpenoids were isolated from the extracts of Fabiana densa var. ramulosa and found to display a selective activity against Gram-positive bacterial strains with negligible cytotoxicity toward human keratinocytes. This study highlighted the role played by the acidic group at C18 of the tetracyclic ent-beyerene scaffold for antibacterial effects and how the length and flexibility of the alkyl chain between the two carbonyl groups are crucial factors to increase the antimicrobial activity of the molecules, supporting the development of natural products from F.

Nigritanine as a new potential antimicrobial alkaloid for the treatment of staphylococcus aureus-induced infections

Staphylococcus aureus is a major human pathogen causing a wide range of nosocomial infections including pulmonary, urinary, and skin infections. Notably, the emergence of bacterial strains resistant to conventional antibiotics has prompted researchers to find new compounds capable of killing these pathogens. Nature is undoubtedly an invaluable source of bioactive molecules characterized by an ample chemical diversity. They can act as unique platform providing new scaffolds for further chemical modifications in order to obtain compounds with optimized biological activity.

The Effect of Poly (Glycerol Sebacate) Incorporation within Hybrid Chitin–Lignin Sol–Gel Nanofibrous Scaffolds

Chitin and lignin primarily accumulate as bio-waste resulting from byproducts of
crustacean crusts and plant biomass. Recently, their use has been proposed for diverse and unique
bioengineering applications, amongst others. However, their weak mechanical properties need to be
improved in order to facilitate their industrial utilization. In this paper, we fabricated hybrid fibers
composed of a chitin–lignin (CL)-based sol–gel mixture and elastomeric poly (glycerol sebacate) (PGS)
