BACKGROUND:
Myocardial necrosis after myocardial infarction (MI) is common; extent and severity are however variable. The pattern is recognized by myocardial perfusion imaging (MPI) as fixed perfusion defects (FPD). The fate of such FPD is not well appraised. This study addressed this important issue in a large number of patients undergoing serial MPI in relation to type of intervening therapy.

Cerebral mitochondrial microangiopathy leads to leukoencephalopathy in mitochondrial neurogastrointestinal encephalopathy

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Mitochondrial neurogastrointestinal encephalopathy is a rare disorder due to recessive mutations in the thymidine phosphorylase gene, encoding thymidine phosphorylase protein required for mitochondrial DNA replication. Clinical manifestations include gastrointestinal dysmotility and diffuse asymptomatic leukoencephalopathy. This study aimed to elucidate the mechanisms underlying brain leukoencephalopathy in patients with mitochondrial neurogastrointestinal encephalopathy by correlating multimodal neuroradiologic features to postmortem pathology.

Can unenhanced MRI of the breast replace contrast-enhanced MRI in assessing response to neoadjuvant chemotherapy?

Background: The goals of neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) are to reduce tumor volume and to offer a prognostic indicator in assessing treatment response. Contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (CE-MRI) is an established method for evaluating response to NAC in patients with breast cancer. Purpose: To validate the role of unenhanced MRI (ue-MRI) compared to CE-MRI for assessing response to NAC in women with breast cancer. Material and Methods: Seventy-one patients with ongoing NAC for breast cancer underwent MRI before, during, and at the end of NAC.

Introduction: Several studies have been performed to assess the efficacy of postmortem computed tomography angiography (PMCTA) in solving cases of sudden cardiac death, even in comparison with the traditional autopsy. However, the results were often inconsistent and inconclusive. Therefore, a global discussion on the subject through a systematic review of the literature and a meta-analysis is necessary. Retrospective study on laser treatment of oral vascular lesions using the "leopard technique": the multiple spot irradiation technique with a single-pulsed wave

Objective: This study aimed to retrospectively evaluate the efficacy and safety of laser treatment of oral vascular lesions using the multiple spot irradiation technique with a single-pulsed wave. Background data: In laser therapy for vascular lesions, heat accumulation induced by excessive irradiation can cause adverse events postoperatively, including ulcer formation, resultant scarring, and severe pain. To prevent heat accumulation and side effects, we have applied a multiple pulsed spot irradiation technique, the so-called "leopard technique" (LT) to oral vascular lesions.

Diagnostic accuracy of 3T magnetic resonance imaging in the preoperative localisation of parathyroid adenomas: comparison with ultrasound and 99mTc-sestamibi scans

Objectives: To evaluate the diagnostic performance of 3TMRI in comparison with ultrasound (US) and 99mTc-sestamibi scan for presurgical localisation of parathyroid adenomas (PTAs) in patients with primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT). Objectives: Peripheral bone infection (PBI) and prosthetic joint infection (PJI) are two different infectious conditions of the musculoskeletal system. They have in common to be quite challenging to be diagnosed and no clear diagnostic flowchart has been established. Thus, a conjoined initiative on these two topics has been initiated by the European Society of Radiology (ESR), the European Association of Nuclear Medicine (EANM), the European Bone and Joint Infection Society (EBJIS), and the European Society of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (ESCMID).

Erratum to. CT-guided percutaneous trans-scapular lung biopsy in the diagnosis of peripheral pulmonary lesion nodules of the superior lobes using large needles

Purpose CT-guided percutaneous transthoracic lung needle biopsy (PLB) is an effective procedure for obtaining cyto-histological diagnoses of peripheral lesions. However, upper postero-lateral lung nodules (UPLN) may be difficult to reach using a standard intercostal either anterior or lateral approach or when the nodule is just behind a rib or scapula. We evaluated the feasibility and effectiveness of trans-scapular approach (tPLB) in these patients using large-core needles.
