The “Elderly” Lesson in a “Stressful” Life: Italian Holistic Approach to Increase COVID-19 Prevention and Awareness

It's a frightening time due to COVID-19, but the great elderly/centenarians, apparently with more frailty, seem to have a better response to the pandemic. “The South Italy” lifestyle seems an “effective strategy” promoting the well-being embedded in a holistic solution: healthy diet, less exposure to PM10 pollution, protected environment, and moderate physical activity. The European FP7 Project RISTOMED results, since 2010, have shown that dietary intervention improved a heathy status in the elderly people.

Quality of Life in Patients with Neuroendocrine Neoplasms: The Role of Severity, Clinical Heterogeneity and Resilience

Context: Although health-related quality of life (HRQoL) is a fundamental outcome in oncological clinical trials, its evaluation in the neuroendocrine neoplasm (NEN) research field is still limited.
Objectives: This study assessed the role of clinical severity (i.e., presence or absence of metastasis and lines of therapies) and heterogeneity (i.e., primary site, types of therapy, biology and surgery) of NEN in relation to HRQoL, as well as resilience as a moderator between clinical severity and HRQoL.
Design: Cross-sectional multicentric study.

Rationale, aims, and objectives: The application of resilience in health care requires the shift from a cause-effect approach to a systemic approach, yet few tools have been developed to measure resilience potential in this specific context. This study tests a resilience assessment grid (RAG) questionnaire to measure the resilience of anaesthesiologists, with a cross-country survey. Method: A study was conducted with an analytic hierarchy process (AHP) questionnaire containing 57 detailed questions; 16 nations and 172 respondents were involved in the study.

In the current scenario where urban areas are exposed to extreme climate phenomena, resilience of cities and buildings becomes fundamental.
Thus, not only defensive, traditional actions, but also alternative solutions towards resilience need to be implemented. Amphibious and floating houses, still not investigated in literature, allow the building to adapt to water presence due to their specific construction and technical properties.

Short-term physiological plasticity.Trade-off between drought and recovery responses in three Mediterranean cistus species

Short-term physiological plasticity allows plants to thrive in highly variable environments such as the Mediterranean ecosystems. In such context, plants that maximize physiological performance under favorable conditions, such as Cistus spp., are generally reported to have a great cost in terms of plasticity (i.e., a high short-term physiological plasticity) due to the severe reduction of physiological performance when stress factors occur. However, Cistus spp. also show a noticeable resilience ability in response to stress factors.

Eco-Transformation, A New Vision for the Atlantic Shoreline and its Communities

The future of the local communities is linked to their capacity to re-adapt their way of life to the new conditions imposed by the climate and economic situation. To test this idea we selected along the Atlantic shoreline an established settlement: Levittown, very affected during the hurricane, to apply some selected strategies as the use of renewable energy, biogas production composting of waste, retrofitting of the existing residential typologies and more, providing a sustainable collective urban action to transform it into a resilient sustainable community.
