At the roots of prejudice towards immigrants: A multi-dimensional analysis of its determinants

At the roots of prejudice towards immigrants: A multi-dimensional analysis of its determinants

In the last decades, Western countries have witnessed increases in anti-immigrant prejudice as a consequence of increased immigration rates. Besides, the recent global threats (e.g., the Covid-19 pandemic, Russia-Ukraine war, etc.) have led people to experience uncertainty, which has been shown to turn into individuals' need to stick to their cognitions, restrict intergroup boundaries, and display prejudicial attitudes towards salient outgroups such as immigrants (e.g., Mula et al. 2021).

Ambition and conspicuous consumption: Identifying the role of envy and normative social Influence

Ambition and conspicuous consumption: Identifying the role of envy and normative social Influence

The global luxury market, and its accompanying negative consequences (e.g., social exclusion, pollution, workers¿ exploitation), is growing. The proposed research program aims to identify the main socio-motivational processes that lead individuals to conspicuous consumption, defined as the acquisition and display of expensive goods and services aimed at attaining social status. Specifically, we propose that ambition, a manifestation of the quest for significance, should lead to conspicuous consumption aimed at improving one¿s social status and thereby enhancing one¿s sense of significance.

The Psychology of Gender Inequality: Processes Underlying the Status Quo and Actions for Social Change

The Psychology of Gender Inequality: Processes Underlying the Status Quo and Actions for Social Change
