La Prima guerra mondiale nella stampa periodica cinese: il dibattito in Cina, le scelte dell’Italia
Based on digital archives of Chinese periodicals, this paper first provides a quantitative analysis of the debate about the First World War in China during the conflict, thus demonstrating the lexical tendency to cast the conflict in a remote area like Europe. Then, after summarizing some opinions on the war expressed in the monthly Dongfang zazhi (Eastern Miscellany), this paper examines the rhetorical strategies deployed by Zhang Junmai (1887-1969) in an article fully dedicated to Italy’s situation in the system of alliances and its shift from neutrality to active participation.
