Studio dei meccanismi alla base del mantenimento della biodiversità e dei rapporti tra biodiversità e funzionamento degli ecosistemi in contesti di cambiamento climatico e di varie tipologie di inquinamento. In particolare, le ricerche sono concentrate sui rapporti interspecifici a base trofica, determinati anche attraverso l'analisi degli isotopi stabili
